According to the announcement, the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney has received £3m for a new berth to test wave-power devices and £1.1m to test support vessels serving the energy industry in the area.[8]

  • A study, by Scottish researchers and their international colleagues, of a newly discovered 90-million-year-old dinosaur fossil have revealed how Tyrannosaurus rex became one of Earth’s top predators.   • Life expectancy at birth in Scotland has reached its highest ever level and the number of people in Scotland living for more than a century continues to grow.   • Lulu, a Scottish singer, jointly won the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest for the song Boom Bang-a-bang, representing United Kingdom. For the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, the outcome of the voting resulted in a tie for the first place.
