  • China's first domestically designed and manufactured stealth fighter jet made its first test flight on January 11, 2011. The maiden flight of this twin-engine fighter, known as J-20, lasted approximately 20 minutes.[9]
  • In a dramatic technological leap China conducted an anti-satellite missile test on January 11, 2007 in order to destroy an aging Chinese weather satellite. China is the third country to conduct such test after the United States and the Soviet Union. However, China faced international criticism over this weapons test.

Today Archosauromorpha is represented by birds and crocodiles — which both lay eggs.[29]

  • China's navy has taken delivery of the first of a new kind of stealth frigate that is expected to bolster the country's maritime defenses. The Type 056 stealth frigate - has a sleek design that helps it evade radar detection, and needs just one-third of the crew used by its predecessor - was delivered to the Chinese navy in Shanghai on 25 February 2013.[33]

  • A group of Chinese and Turkish Christian evangelical explorers revealed, on 27 April 2010, that the wooden remains they have discovered on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey are likely the remains of Noah's Ark. The group claims that carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old, meaning they date to around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.[71]

China revised its Science and Technology Constitution on December 29, 2007 to allow scientists, institutes and universities to own patents arising from publicly-funded research in an effort to boost innovation.[228]
