  • Seychelles set records in visitor arrival numbers and in tourism earnings in 2013 - visitor arrival figures stood at 230,272, while tourism earnings jumped to US $343.6 million - according to an official report published on 6 January 2014. This represents a 10.7% increase in number of visitors compared to 2012 and an increase of 11% over 2012 tourism earning figures.

  • Seychelles and 25 other nations from Africa on 10 June 2015 signed a historic free trade pact, Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA), that will ease the movement of goods across member countries in next five years. Once fully implemented, the 26-nation TFTA will be the continent's largest free-trade zone.

  • Independence Day of Seychelles. They got independence from the United Kingdom in 1976.

  • Seychelles and Sri Lanka signed three agreements on 30 June 2013 following bilateral discussions between Seychelles President James Alix Michel and his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa. The agreements signed were bilateral air-service agreement, MOU on vocational training and youth development and MOU on defense cooperation between the two countries.

  • The Seychelles islands and Singapore on 9 July 2014 signed a double taxation avoidance agreement, which will allow businesses operating in the two countries to pay tax in one of the jurisdictions and avoid taxation in the other, which is expected to encourage trade and investment between the two countries.[4]

  • A new UAE visa waiver for all Seychellois passport holders came into effect on 16 July 2015, making the island nation the first African country to implement such an agreement with the UAE. The development will allow Seychelles’ citizens to visit the UAE for a period of up to 90 days without applying for a visa before travelling.[5]

  • Seychellois judge Mathilda Twomey was appointed as the first woman Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Seychelles on 7 August 2015, upon the unanimous recommendation of the Constitutional Appointments Authority.[6]
  • Seychelles became the sixth African country and 69th nation to obtain a visa upon arrival status to the Republic of Indonesia, as announced on 7 August 2015. This 30-day Visa on Arrival can be obtained directly when one arrives regardless of the purpose of visit (Business, Tourist, Social - Cultural).[7]
