  • Researchers from Panama and Costa Rica have discovered a new, fiery-red coral species off the coast of Peru's Paracas National Reserve. Their findings were reported on 16 January 2014 in the Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom.[2]

  • Biologists from Panama and the USA have discovered a type of nocturnal hunting spider from the genus Selenops, about two inches across, that is able to steer while falling, much like a wingsuit flyer, in order to return to the tree from which it fell, according to a study published on 19 August 2015 in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface.[6]
