  • Montenegro on 3 May 2016 signed a Cooperation Agreement with the European Union (EU)'s judicial cooperation unit Eurojust in order to assist the region in fighting serious cross-border crimes. The agreement is a vital step, bringing Montenegro closer to EU membership.[4]

  • The World Bank on 9 May 2016 approved a grant totaling US$8.73 million for the West Balkans Drina River Basin Management Project for Montenegro (US$2.72 million), Bosnia and Herzegovina (US$3.37 million), and Serbia (US$2.63 million). The project aims to ensure a rational and equitable management of the Drina River basin supporting the significant socio-economic development opportunities offered by its abundant natural resources, while at the same time protecting the environment.[5]

  • Montenegro was elected on the United Nations Human Rights Council on 12 November 2012 for a three-year term. The council was created by the UN General Assembly in 2006 as the main human rights body of the UN.[11]
