  • Kazakhstan and Russia signed an agreement on common regional air defense system on 30 January 2013. The agreement will constitute a ground for Kazakhstan airspace security and relatively for the border area of Russia.[1]

  • Researcher from Kazakhstan and Russia have discovered a well-preserved fossilized skull of a long-extinct animal known as the Siberian unicorn — which was actually a long-horned rhinoceros — in Kazakhstan. The animal, Elasmotherium sibiricum, may have went extinct 29,000 years ago instead of 350,000 years as previously thought, according to a study published in the American Journal of Applied Sciences on 15 February 2016.[4]

  • Kazakhstan was elected on the United Nations Human Rights Council on 12 November 2012 for a three-year term. The council was created by the UN General Assembly in 2006 as the main human rights body of the UN.[14]

  • Kazakhstan and Canada signed a Nuclear Cooperation Agreement (NCA) on 13 November 2013 in sphere of peaceful nuclear energy. The nuclear cooperation agreement – together with the administrative arrangements – would enable Canadian and Kazakh companies to export and import controlled nuclear materials, equipment and technology under safeguards applied by the International Atomic Energy Agency.[15]
